11KV RMU

The 11KV RMU from Arpan Power Projects is a compact ring main unit for 11 kV medium-voltage networks, built with advanced vacuum and SF6 technology for indoor and outdoor installation.

Description

The 11KV RMU from Arpan Power Projects is a compact ring main unit for 11 kV medium-voltage networks. Built with advanced vacuum and SF6 technology, it connects the cables of a ring network, isolates faulty sections and protects the transformer it feeds, all from one sealed switchgear unit.

How an 11KV RMU Works in a Ring

In a ring network, each substation is fed by two cables, so power can reach it from either direction. The 11KV RMU sits at a point on the ring and joins the cables through switches. If a cable section is damaged, the operator opens the switches on either side of that section and the rest of the ring keeps receiving power from the other direction. The unit also protects the transformer on its feeder.

Where an 11KV RMU Is Used

An 11KV RMU is the workhorse of secondary distribution. It serves transformers in residential layouts, commercial complexes, campuses and industrial plants. A common arrangement uses two switches for the ring and one protected switch for the transformer feeder. 11 kV systems are typically served by 12 kV class equipment, so always check the datasheet of the unit you choose.

Choose Your 11KV RMU by Location

  • Inside a switch room: see our Indoor Ring Main Unit, an SF6 insulated compact switchgear with motorised operation and SCADA integration through RTU.
  • In an open yard or beside a building: see our outdoor ring main unit, which stands free or sits inside a mini compact substation, with SCADA integration through FRTU.
  • On a tight urban or industrial plot: see our Safelink Ring Main Unit, a compact and modular unit.

Tell us your location and we will confirm the version available for your site.

Four Questions to Settle Before You Order an 11KV RMU

  1. Will it go in a switch room or an open yard?
  2. How many cable feeders and transformer feeders does your ring need?
  3. Do you need SCADA connectivity?
  4. Do you want room to extend the board later?

Share the answers with us and we will recommend a suitable unit.

11KV RMU: Frequently Asked Questions

Which networks use an 11KV RMU?
It is used on 11 kV ring networks for secondary distribution to transformers.

How many feeders does it have?
A common arrangement is two ring switches and one transformer feeder. Other configurations are possible, so tell us the number of feeders you need.

Can it be connected to SCADA?
Yes. Our indoor and outdoor ring main units are motorised and can be integrated with SCADA through RTU or FRTU.

Can I use it on a higher-voltage network?
No. The unit must be rated for the voltage of the network it is connected to. For a higher-voltage ring network, see our higher-voltage ring main unit page.

Do you supply across India?
Yes. Share your feeder count and site location for a quotation.
